DJGPP and Allegro are the tag team that make game programming for DOS so easy! If you want to develop for DOS, then DJGPP is a must-have. Adding RHIDE to the mix gives you what is many people's favorite environment.

Keep in mind that if you want to develop for Windows, you are much better off getting MinGW32. (Windows 2000/XP will not work well with DOS apps.)
