My cat used to beat up my gf's mother's full-grown mastiff. He eventually just ran away whenever he saw her.

I myself have/want no pets

No pets here either. If I did I'd get a cat before a dog, but in all likelihood if I did get a pet I'd get something weird, like an iguana.

I used to consider myself purely a dog person. Then my sister found this kitten up a tree in the middle of winter when the temperature was like -25c or colder. It was shivering like there was no tomorrow (almost wasn't, any longer outside and he'd have bought it). We waited for people to ask about a missing kitten, and eventually adopted the cute little fur ball.

The one caveat we had was that it had to be my pet and not my sister's, as she had two cats already. I didn't mind, he seemed to like me anyhow, so I doubt he's bothered much by it. He still likes me, which makes me happy \o/

But then, you have to realize, he's like a dog in many ways. Larger than small dogs, has a very similar personality, except more independent on occasion. ie: he won't tear up the house or shit all over if you leave him alone for a day or three.

So now, I like cats, like jasper.

Someone I know told me that her mother has been feeding a stray cat for 2 months. She lives some 5 km away. I went to see the cat and she looked a lot like Lolli, but was very shy. Yesterday I borrowed a cat trap (actually a rabbit trap) from the cat shelter in our town. Weather forecast told that the weekend would be snowy and cold, -15° C. I caught the cat last night, half past midnight something. I took her home to have a better look at her. It wasn't Lolli. She was very shy but it took only five minutes for her to grow confident with us. She spent the night in our sauna, ate and drank a lot. Good thing is that old Fyndi is deaf and couldn't hear this cat. Fyndi slept upstairs knowing nothing about this cat. And in the morning we let Fyndi go mouse chasing in the attic, while we took care of this stray cat. I was going to take her to the cat shelter today, but she struggled herself free from a cat harness while I was out with her. She spent some time under my car, but then she just disappeared. I left food for her outdoor and now I can see cat tracks around the cup. It must be her. I'm thinking of rigging a webcam and my FunKam MoveDetect to get snapshots whenever someone is near the food cup.

Yay, my wife just saw the cat around our house. We have a lot of snow and the cat has difficulties moving around. She doesn't want to get caught, but still seems to be confident with us, knowing she will get food.

The cat came back by her own choice. She was a bit suspicious, but hunger concured. Now she spends her second night in two months in a warm house. Got to take pictures of her before she leaves us tomorrow.

And she's gone. I took her to the shelter. Before she left us, she managed to pee on the floor. My wife didn't notice it before she vacuumed over the spot.
